Maureen Killackey has joined Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center as Deputy Physician-in-Chief and Medical Director of Memorial Sloan-Kettering's Regional Care Network. She succeeds Albert R. Casazza, who is retiring after serving for 11 years as Medical Director of the Regional Care Network. Dr. Killackey also holds an appointment as an attending surgeon on the Gynecology Service.
Dr. Killackey trained at Memorial Sloan-Kettering and is returning to the Center after years of leadership roles at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York City and then at Bassett Healthcare System in upstate New York. During her 16 years at St. Luke's-Roosevelt, Dr. Killackey built gynecologic oncology into a vigorous program that included strong clinical, training, and outreach components. In 2000 she became Director of the Bassett Regional Cancer Program, centered at the Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown, New York, where she oversaw the expansion and integration of cancer-related services over a ten-county area and the expansion of clinical trials capability and participation through the Bassett multispecialty network.
"I am confident that Dr. Killackey's leadership and expertise will ensure the continued excellence of Memorial Sloan-Kettering's Regional Care Network," said Physician-in-Chief Robert E. Wittes.
Dr. Killackey received her MD degree from Cornell University Medical College in 1978 and completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at New York Hospital and then a fellowship in gynecologic oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering. She is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and in gynecologic oncology.
Dr. Killackey is a member of the New York State (NYS) Ovarian Cancer Advisory Panel and the NYS Breast and Cervical Cancer Detection and Education Program, positions to which she was appointed by former Governor George E. Pataki. She serves on the board of directors of the American Cancer Society's Eastern Division and is a member of the NYS Cancer Center Directors' Panel.
Memorial Sloan-Kettering's Regional Care Network comprises outpatient cancer care facilities on Long Island, in Westchester County, and a new facility in Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
