Joseph Muller, a patient escort at Memorial Sloan-Kettering, was recognized for his work by the HealthCare Chaplaincy in November.
The multifaith Chaplaincy celebrated the dedication and accomplishments of those, like Mr. Muller, who represent its core mission, to care for the whole person -- spirit, mind, and body -- at the annual Wholeness of Life awards dinner.
"I have been at Memorial Sloan-Kettering for 37 years and all the while, I have enjoyed helping patients," said Mr. Muller. "As a patient escort, I have an opportunity to interact with many patients of different ages and a range of diseases. I try to provide a positive attitude to all on every trip, and hopefully impress upon each individual how much we all care for their well-being."
"All of our honorees have made compassionate service to others a priority in their lives, similar to our multifaith chaplains who serve alongside them. These individuals demonstrate wholeness in their own lives and in the treatment of others," said The HealthCare Chaplaincy president and CEO, the Reverend Dr. Walter J. Smith, S.J.
The HealthCare Chaplaincy, founded in 1961, is a leading international center for multifaith pastoral care, education, research, and consulting. From its operational hub in Manhattan, The Chaplaincy partners with many diverse institutions throughout the New York region, providing patients, their loved ones, and staff with essential spirit-centered care, multifaith services, and supportive counsel to help foster total well-being.
