"There's a lot of excitement in this room," said Memorial Hospital Physician-in-Chief Robert E. Wittes, noting the high spirits in the Rockefeller Research Laboratories Auditorium during the 2008 Samuel and May Rudin Awards for Excellence in Nursing.
The ceremony, held on the morning of May 7, recognized five Memorial Sloan-Kettering nurses and a patient care technician for exemplary service in patient care in various categories. The award winners were nominated by fellow nurses, administrators, physicians, and patients for providing excellent care and comfort.
In addition to congratulating the winners, Dr. Wittes pointed out that the awards are "a tribute to the extraordinarily high level of excellence that nursing at Memorial has always exemplified."
Elizabeth Nelkin McCormick, Executive Director of Nursing, said it was a "personal privilege and honor" to work on behalf of all the Memorial Sloan-Kettering nurses. She also thanked the Rudin family and the Samuel and May Rudin Foundation for their "unfailing generosity and continued support" of the awards program.
