Neuro-oncologist Lisa M. DeAngelis
Neuro-oncologist Lisa M. DeAngelis has been elected to the Institute of Medicine (IOM). Election to the IOM is considered one of the highest honors in the field of health and medicine. Dr. DeAngelis is Chair of Memorial Sloan-Kettering’s Department of Neurology and Co-Executive Director of the Brain Tumor Center. She holds the Lillian Rojtman Berkman Chair in honor of Jerome B. Posner and is also Vice President of the American Academy of Neurology.
A leader in her field, Dr. DeAngelis has extensive experience in the care of patients with brain tumors and the neurologic complications of cancer. Her research focuses on work that seeks to improve outcomes for these patients. She has led national trials of investigational drugs for primary central nervous system lymphomas and has conducted numerous trials of brain tumor therapeutics.
The IOM is a branch of the National Academies and was established to honor professional achievement in the health sciences and to serve as a national resource for recommendations on issues related to medicine, biomedical sciences, and health. Eighteen members of the Memorial Sloan-Kettering faculty are members of the IOM.
Dr. DeAngelis received her MD degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and completed fellowships at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center and at Memorial Sloan-Kettering. After completing her fellowship in neuro-oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering she joined the faculty in 1986, and was appointed Chair of the Department of Neurology in 1997.
