If you or someone you know has been diagnosed with cancer, you can contact Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center’s Physician Referral Service to make an appointment. Our referral staff is highly knowledgeable about cancer and about the individual specialties of our doctors. When you call, we will discuss your diagnosis and match you with the best physician for your particular situation. We can also answer many of your questions regarding treatment, insurance coverage, and clinical trials.
Appointments to see one of our neurologists or neurosurgeons are usually available within days.
Because each patient is different, we need to speak with you by phone to determine which physician you should see. At that time, we will ask you about your medical history. To set up a time to talk, call us toll-free at 866-886-9807, Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, eastern time. You may also leave a message at other times and your call will be returned the next business day.
What to Expect
If appropriate, an appointment will be set up at the time of your call. Outpatient neurology visits take place in the Rockefeller Outpatient Pavilion at 160 East 53rd Street, on Third Avenue, in midtown Manhattan; outpatient neurosurgery appointments take place at the Main Campus in our Neurosurgery suite on the 4th Floor of Memorial Hospital at 1275 York Avenue, on the Upper East Side of Manhattan between East 67th and 68th Streets. You will be advised of the location of your appointment at the time of your call.
Depending on your situation, however, we might suggest that you forward the following to us for review:
- your medical records
- MRI films
- and other test results
Our experts from Neurology, Neurosurgery, Radiology, and Radiation Oncology discuss the case of each patient, and decide on a treatment recommendation.
Within a day or two, the patient or the patient's caregiver receives a report by phone, followed by a written report.
Arranging a Records Review
A records review is a fast and relatively low-cost way to determine the best course of treatment, and can spare you the time and energy of a clinic visit.
For many patients, the Records Review provides the benefits of Memorial Sloan-Kettering's unparalleled expertise in diagnosis and treatment planning, without the necessity of traveling lengthy distances and leaving the care of local physicians. When you call, we will discuss with you the best path for you to follow to get our opinion on your care.
In recommending treatment, we focus solely on what we believe to be the best approach for each patient. This may involve being treated here at Memorial Sloan-Kettering, or we may suggest treatment elsewhere. In any case, you can be assured that the recommendation will reflect the most expert learning about proven brain tumor therapies, considering your individual medical and personal circumstances.
See a Memorial Sloan-Kettering Doctor Closer to Home
Patients living in the suburbs of New York City may find it more convenient to see a Memorial Sloan-Kettering doctor at one of our suburban outpatient cancer centers, where neurologic consultations are available at our Basking Ridge and Commack locations.
At these regional centers, our expert clinicians see patients in local settings, providing the highest standards of comprehensive cancer care, including the most advanced chemotherapy and radiation treatments. This means that brain tumor patients need to come to the Manhattan campus only for certain therapy, such as surgery. When you call us for an appointment, please let us know if you would prefer to be seen at a Memorial Sloan-Kettering regional site.
