I serve as Director of the Office of Faculty Development (OFD) at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, established in the Office of the President in 2012. The goal of the OFD is to foster the career development of all Memorial Sloan Kettering faculty members and to serve as a resource for recruiting, retaining, and supporting their professional growth. The OFD includes specific initiatives for women (the Program for Women Faculty Affairs, established in 2005 to ensure equal professional development opportunities for women and men faculty), junior faculty, and faculty in our expanding regional networks. The OFD also builds the pipeline for faculty development with student programs.
Since joining the Memorial Sloan Kettering faculty in 1990, my clinical work has been in the Breast Imaging Service of the Department of Radiology, where I served for several years as director of breast imaging research programs. My research has focused on image-guided breast needle biopsies under stereotactic, ultrasound, and MRI guidance, which provide a less invasive and less expensive alternative to surgery for diagnosing breast lesions. My work has been integral to setting standards for breast needle biopsy technique and follow-up, has expedited treatment for women with breast cancer, and has spared surgery for women with benign breast lesions.
