The goal of this study is to better understand the changes in symptoms and overall quality of life of patients after they have had head and neck surgery and reconstruction. Learning about changes in patients’ quality of life will help doctors and future patients make more informed treatment decisions.
Participants in this study have a stage III or IV mouth (oral cavity) cancer that requires surgery to remove the cancer and reconstructive surgery to repair the defect. They will complete four questionnaires: one before the surgery and three others at three, six, and twelve months following the surgery. These questionnaires include short questions asking patients how they feel about their cancer, its treatment, their health, their mood, and their appearance after the surgery.
