Edward K. Avila, DO

I am a neurologist with specialty training in epilepsy and clinical neurophysiology. I treat patients with brain tumors who develop seizures as a result of their tumor and patients with neurological complications of systemic cancer. As an epileptologist, I provide continuity of care for patients with seizures in conjunction with my colleagues in neuro-oncology, neurosurgery, and radiation oncology. In addition to these clinical responsibilities, I head the electroencephalography (EEG) and intraoperative neurophysiologic monitoring (IOM) services at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. I interpret EEG studies, which assist in the diagnosis and treatment of seizures, and I perform and interpret intraoperative neurophysiologic monitoring, a technique used to prevent neural injury during brain and spine surgery.
