I am a board-certified ophthalmologist and have been a member of the ophthalmic oncology team at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center since 2008. I am one of the very few ocular oncologists trained in all aspects of eye cancer, and my clinical experience in treating these diseases is among the most extensive in the US.
I was drawn to ophthalmology and eye surgery because I marveled at how the eye worked and realized how important vision is for life. The challenge of saving vision in an eye that contained cancer while saving the patient’s life later sparked my interest in ophthalmic oncology. During my eight-year tenure at the Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia I gained extensive experience treating intraocular tumors (tumors of the eyelid, orbit, and conjunctiva) in children and adults. I also developed and improved many surgical procedures used to cure cancers of the eye and successfully treated thousands of patients and helped their families though their battle with eye cancer.
