I am a thoracic surgeon with expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of cancers in the chest — lung cancer, esophageal cancer, mesothelioma, thymoma, mediastinal and chest wall tumors, and cancers metastatic to lung and pleura.
My clinical interests include systematic workup of lung nodules for early diagnosis of lung cancer, accurate staging of thoracic cancers by endoscopic methods such as endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS), and video-assisted thorascopic surgery (VATS). I take pride in effective communication with patients, family members, and their primary care physicians by constant and direct access. I perform minimally invasive, robotic, and open surgical procedures with a focus on patient-oriented outcomes (cancer control, quality of life).
I am involved in clinical research, and am currently the co-Principal Investigator on two trials at Memorial Sloan-Kettering:
Protocal 11-037 and Protocol 11-192.
I conduct laboratory research focused on the development of biomarkers (blood tests) for early detection of cancer and gene therapy for thoracic cancers. These therapies include immunotherapy (enhancing patients’ own immune systems using genetic and cell engineering) and oncolytic viral therapy (killing cancer cells using genetically engineered viruses).

Department of Defense, the American Association for Cancer Research, the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer, the National Lung Cancer Partnership, the American Association for Thoracic Surgery, the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation, the Esophageal Cancer Education Foundation, the New York State Empire Clinical Research Investigator Program, the Stony Wold-Herbert Fund, and Memorial Sloan-Kettering’s Experimental Therapeutics Center, as well as several other foundations.
I mentor surgical trainees, research fellows, and bioengineering students (from the City College of New York). The strength of their training is reflected in their multiple presentations at international conferences and peer-reviewed publications.
