Multiple Myeloma: Follow-Up Care

During and after your treatment for multiple myeloma, our doctors and nurses will monitor your health closely, watching for changes such as bone pain or frequent infections. Your follow-up care may include regular blood tests and bone scans that can identify signs that the disease is progressing. These signs could include rising immunoglobulin protein levels in the blood or urine, abnormal white or red blood cell counts, or evidence of deterioration of bone by x-rays.

If your multiple myeloma shows signs of progression, your doctor may recommend changing treatments or introducing new approaches to control the disease or manage any myeloma-related problems.

If you experience pain or any other new symptoms of disease, contact your doctor immediately. The sooner these symptoms are evaluated and treated, the more quickly they can be addressed.
