Our soft tissue sarcoma nomogram is an online tool that can help to predict the likelihood of survival at 12 years following surgery for the disease. It also predicts the probability of survival for patients at five years following recurrence of soft tissue sarcoma.
Who Can Use This Tool?
This nomogram was designed to be used by physicians and people with soft tissue sarcoma. If you are a patient, we recommend that you use this tool in consultation with your doctor.
The nomogram is designed to make predictions for adult patients who are no more than six months past their surgery and who had no evidence of metastasis at the time of surgery.
This nomogram is not appropriate for patients who have experienced local or systemic recurrence following surgery. (Nomograms for predicting recurrence and metastases are under development.) It is not designed to make predictions for childhood soft tissue sarcoma. This nomogram is also not appropriate for patients whose sarcoma site was the skin.
Subtle differences in pathological subtype, or other variables not included in the nomogram, may make a difference for individual prediction. Our nomogram only utilizes routine predictors that are commonly available and, as a result, is not a substitute for a consultation with your doctor.
Why Is This Tool Useful?
This nomogram and its results may be useful for treatment planning, patient counseling, follow-up scheduling, and determining whether a patient would be eligible for a clinical trial.
What Information Will You Need?
In order for this nomogram to provide an accurate prediction, you will need to include accurate values for all of the information below.
- Age: The patient’s current age.
- Histology: The type of sarcoma with which the patient was diagnosed.
- Site: The location in the body where the sarcoma was located.
- Grade: How the cancer cells appear under the microscope.
- Depth: The depth at which the sarcoma was located.
- Tumor size: From 0 to 10 cm.
