Memorial Sloan-Kettering is a comprehensive center for the detection and treatment of thyroid cancer. Over the past decade, our team has treated more than 6,000 people with thyroid cancer, one of the most curable types of cancer.
Our thyroid cancer experts use the latest surgical techniques, including minimally invasive approaches when possible. We were among the first to routinely use synthetic thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) in combination with radioactive iodine therapy, improving both the effectiveness of the therapy and the quality of patients' lives. Our radiologists are experts in Image Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), which targets radiation treatments directly to tumors while sparing surrounding tissue. We use PET scans in patients with a high risk of tumor recurrence to determine whether the cancer is growing or has spread, and to select the most appropriate follow-up treatment. Memorial Sloan-Kettering researchers have also identified many of the genetic changes that can result in thyroid cancer, and are using this knowledge to develop a new generation of novel therapies.

Your nurses bring extraordinary knowledge, experience, and expertise to your care, because they specialize in helping people with your particular type of cancer. Your nurses will help you through your experience at Memorial Sloan-Kettering, whether you are being treated in the hospital or as an outpatient.
