I am a board-certified internist, pulmonologist, and intensivist with special expertise in the fields of severe sepsis and acute respiratory failure. I am also a Professor of Medicine and Anesthesiology at Weill Cornell Medical College. I joined the Memorial Sloan Kettering staff in 1999 and serve as the director of the critical care medicine fellowship and research programs in the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine. As fellowship program director, I am in charge of the day-to-day operation of the program, including the development and implementation of the educational curriculum for our fellows and in discussing their evaluations, research projects, and career options. I serve as principal investigator for several clinical trials in septic shock and acute lung injury. In addition to my clinical and research activities at Memorial Sloan Kettering, I am actively involved in critical care medicine at a national level, and hold leadership positions in the Society of Critical Care Medicine and the American College of Chest Physicians. I have also been the recipient of several society presidential citation awards for outstanding contributions to critical care medicine. I was the program co-chair of the 36th Critical Care Congress in 2007. Most recently, I was the lead editor of the Critical Care Clinics issue on “Intensive Care of the Cancer Patient.
