The outlook for patients with kidney cancer has improved significantly in recent years. Thanks to the use of sophisticated imaging technologies, more than half of all tumors are found in the early stages of the disease, when the tumor is confined to the kidney and is more treatable. Better understanding of the biology of kidney cancer has also led to the development of new medical treatments – including several pioneered at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center – that can prolong survival.
