My areas of interest are cytopathology and pulmonary pathology. In the practice of cytopathology, I perform fine needle aspiration biopsies. These minimally invasive procedures are fast and accurate, and allow pathologists like me to quickly assess specimens to determine whether cancer is present. This part of my work is very gratifying because I have direct contact with patients, and they appreciate receiving their biopsy results quickly. These biopsy results also enable doctors, together with their patients, to make informed treatment decisions.
My research combines my two areas of interest: the use of cytological specimens to improve the diagnosis of lung cancer and the molecular characterization of these tumors. My aim is to give clinicians the most information possible from a small biopsy sample.
