As Chief of the Pulmonology Service — a post I have held since 1986 — I oversee a very skilled team of specialists that coordinates the care of patients with pulmonary-related complications of cancer. I also oversee our service’s training program and clinical practice, and am very involved in educating patients—particularly  children, teens, and women — on the perils of smoking. I have also testified before the US Congress on the ill effects smoking has on children.

My research interest has been, and continues to be, identifying and characterizing the many causes of lung injury in a person with a weakened immune system (immunocompromised).
