Reconstruction is an important part of recovery after cancer surgery. Using techniques including local tissue transfer, distant tissue transfer through microsurgery, and implants, I aim to restore patients’ function, appearance, and self-confidence. Although I perform reconstruction for all areas of the body, I am particularly interested in the head and neck region, including after Mohs' surgery.
The goal of my research is to understand and optimize quality-of-life outcomes for head and neck cancer reconstruction patients. Through development of patient-reported questionnaires, I intend to examine the impact of reconstructive procedures on physical and psychological functioning. These findings will improve clinical decision-making and refine surgical techniques.
The nurses in our department offer an educational class on breast reconstruction options following a mastectomy, which is open to patients, families, and friends. For more information or to register, please see the event details.
