My current research is focused on two areas. I am studying trends in breast reconstruction in the United States, such as the use of implants as opposed to a patient’s own tissue. Part of the impetus for this research is to better understand healthcare disparities within plastic surgery.
I am also very interested in finding ways to better understand, and optimize, quality of life for people undergoing reconstructive head and neck surgery. Through development of questionnaires that involve patient input, I am examining the impact of reconstructive procedures on well-being — both physical and psychological. My hope is that these findings will improve clinical decision making and help us refine our surgical techniques.
