For women with advanced ovarian cancers, I perform open abdominal surgery with tumor debulking that includes the removal of all large tumor masses. Tumor debulking requires a systematic and thorough surgical approach as this optimizes the outcome for women with this type of disease. The surgical management of ovarian cancer has been a specific area of interest for me over the years, and I have participated in numerous clinical studies focused on improving the outcomes for women with this disease. I understand that facing cancer, or even the possibility of having cancer, is a major challenge in a woman’s life. With that in mind, I work to provide excellence of surgical technique with an individualized approach to each of my patients.
In parallel with my clinical work, I maintain a strong commitment to research in ovarian and uterine cancers. I have received competitive funding from the Gynecologic Cancer Foundation and the National Cancer Institute for my research in ovarian cancer tumor biology and developmental therapeutics. I also serve on national committees dedicated to improving outcomes for women with gynecologic cancers including the Society of Gynecologic Oncology Clinical Practice Committee, the Gynecologic Cancer Foundation Communications Committee, and the Gynecologic Oncology Group Ovarian Cancer Committee. I have received numerous awards for my work from the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, The American Association of Cancer Research, the American Cancer Society, and the Society of Gynecologic Oncology.
Originally from Wilton, Connecticut, I graduated magna cum laude from the accelerated medical degree program at Boston University in 1996. I completed residency in gynecology and obstetrics at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, followed by a gynecologic oncology fellowship with specialized training in minimally invasive surgery for gynecologic cancers at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York. Upon the completion of my training in 2004, I worked as a full-time gynecologic cancer surgeon at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, and I relocated to Memorial Sloan-Kettering in 2007.
I spend the majority of my time at Memorial Sloan-Kettering’s Main Campus in Manhattan, where I perform all of my surgical cases. I see new patients on Tuesdays at the Rockefeller Outpatient Pavilion, Memorial Sloan-Kettering's 53rd Street location. I also see patients at our Memorial Sloan-Kettering Commack facility in Long Island every other week on Wednesdays.
