I am a pediatric oncologist with expertise in cell therapy and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (also known as bone marrow transplantation). As a physician-scientist, my main goal is to optimize the efficacy of stem cell transplantation and anticancer treatments while reducing their toxic side effects. In the laboratory, I am collaborating with immunologists, chemists, and engineers conducting studies designed to develop new strategies to improve immune function and antitumor activity in cancer patients and stem cell transplantation recipients. I hope that the results of my research will have direct impact on the development and design of new clinical trials, translating into benefits for hematopoietic stem cell transplantation recipients, as well as for patients suffering from cancer and immunodeficiencies.
