My research focuses on the mechanisms of anesthetic effects on consciousness and memory. We look at mechanisms at the functional level, studying the ability of anesthetic drugs to influence the complex activities and interactions of functional systems in the brain. Our current studies investigate the effect of drugs on the interaction between consciousness and unconscious emotional processing. Our studies utilise functional MRI, EEG, ERP, PET, and behavioral modalities.
My clinical work is based at the Weill Cornell Medical College, where I specialize in anesthesia for neurological surgery, especially vascular neurosurgery and major spine surgery.
