I am a medical health physicist specializing in radiation protection in medicine and hold appointments in both the Department of Medical Physics and the Department of Radiology. I am the Radiation Safety Manager and Chair of Memorial Sloan-Kettering’s Emergency Management Committee, as well as a member of the Radiation Injury Treatment Network.
I have spent more than 25 years in the field of radiation protection and health physics, half of which involved radiation protection programs for the energy and industrial sectors. For more than ten years, I have been engaged in operations and research in medical health physics. Our goal is to provide and maintain exceptional medical health physics expertise in support of the fields of radiology, x-ray imaging, nuclear medicine, radiation oncology, and radiochemistry, as well as surgery and medicine. My research focuses on developing new techniques that utilize radioactive materials and radiation-producing devices. This practical research is aimed at facilitating the immediate translation of results into improved radiation protection practices and communication avenues that maximize medical benefits to our patients while reducing risks from exposure to ionizing radiation and enabling the expansion of successful clinical programs.
