Since joining the Department of Anesthesia and Critical Care Medicine at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in 1990 my interest in the care of pediatric cancer patients undergoing complicated diagnostic and treatment-related procedures has only grown. I am able to provide my expertise to all types of patients both in the operating room and for procedures performed in other areas of the hospital.
As a clinician, I have been able to use my experience and knowledge to teach residents in anesthesia who rotate through our department. In caring for patients I have also become interested in monitoring the quality of care that we provide. I am on the Hospital Quality Assessment Committee and currently serve as the Chair of the Anesthesia and Critical Care Quality Assessment Committee. In my tenure as chair of the committee, I have worked with others to establish protocols designed to improve the care of patients, and we have expanded to involve all divisions of our department as well as other departments.
In the coming months and years I look forward to implementing a new quality improvement tool that will further enhance patient care, satisfaction, and safety. I am excited to be able to continue with the mission of Memorial Sloan Kettering as we grow with this new venture.
