I take care of children and young adults with leukemia and lymphomas, as well as those with Wilms' tumor and a form of liver cancer called hepatoblastoma. The management of these cancers is very intricate, interesting, and compelling, and our approach is changing as we learn more about the molecular biology of these diseases.
In my research, I am studying supportive care for children undergoing cancer treatment. Therapy can cause certain complications, such as blood clots, fever, and low white blood cell counts. I would like to devise ways to better manage those side effects so we can optimize each patient's therapy and minimize these potentially debilitating results.
