The Surgical Day Hospital (SDH) at Memorial Sloan Kettering is a technologically advanced facility designed for surgeons to perform a variety of outpatient procedures. Renovated in June 2010, the SDH has a suite of seven operating rooms and four endoscopy treatment rooms designed to facilitate collaboration among clinicians from different medical disciplines.
With innovations in this facility, Memorial Sloan Kettering is pioneering a new direction in surgery that allows for sophisticated and complex surgical procedures to be performed in the outpatient setting. The facility is also designed to make the experience of surgery as comfortable and safe as possible for patients.

The SDH is housed with the Center for Image-Guided Interventions, which allows clinicians to access up-to-the-minute clinical images and collaborate with colleagues to develop new and minimally invasive procedures and treatment approaches.
The SDH's operating rooms are outfitted with the following special features:
- Ceiling-mounted “booms” that provide OR essentials such as anesthesia, oxygen, and suction without taking up floor space
- Walls of Knowledge, which display complete, real-time patient information as well as video of the ongoing surgery, laboratory data, and radiologic images
- Videoconferencing capabilities, enabling physicians to communicate with colleagues in other locations
Endoscopy rooms are equipped with the most-advanced endoscopic technologies, providing sharp, clear images.
Among the endoscopy procedures performed here are colonoscopy, endoscopic ultrasound, upper endoscopy, and sophisticated procedures such as endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) for pancreatic cancer.

The SDH is designed to make the experience of surgery as comfortable and safe as possible. A typical procedure in the SDH takes about two hours, and patients can usually be released later the same day with the benefits of faster recovery, reduced postsurgical complications, lower cost, and improved patient satisfaction.
