Urologic surgeon Jonathan Coleman discusses interstitial laser therapy, a type of thermal focal therapy in which, through MRI guidance, a thin, flexible laser fiber is placed directly into the prostate to focus laser energy on small tumors, superheating and destroying them. A multidisciplinary team including a surgeon, radiologist, and interventional radiologist uses heat maps to delineate the site to be treated, minimizing the risk of side effects in surrounding tissues.
