This program presents a more thorough set of perspectives on oncology massage therapy. We discuss integrative medicine research, lymphedema in the cancer population, what massage therapists need to know about common medications prescribed for cancer patients, how massage therapy can be most effectively integrated into an oncology treatment team, and how contraindications and hospital practices can influence massage treatments.
Massage therapists leave this course with the knowledge and skills to:
- Understand hospital organization and encourage the development of hospital-based massage therapy programs
- Apply clinical reasoning to complicated case histories and outline safe, effective treatment for cancer patients
- Identify lymphedema in cancer patients and refer cases to appropriately trained therapists
