If you are from outside the United States, you can receive a medical opinion from a physician at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center by requesting a medical records review by mail.

Though this can be a more convenient option than traveling to New York for a consultation, there are several important limitations:

  • It is not available for people who have leukemia.
  • It is not available for people receiving active chemotherapy or radiation therapy.
  • It can only be based on the extent, quality, and quantity of information we receive.
  • It does not include direct communication with one of our physicians.

If you are interested in this option, please complete and submit the Service Request Form. This form includes a list of the additional medical information that we need to complete the review. Please submit all documents in English. Sending documents in any language other than English will cause a delay. We cannot translate documents, but we do offer contact information for several private translation services in New York that you may wish to use.

After we receive all of your required medical information, we will call or e-mail you to confirm your information, get additional demographic information, and collect the fee. The cost is US $2,000 for an initial review of records and US $1,750 for a follow-up review.

We will forward your case to a Memorial Sloan Kettering physician who will review the information and provide a medical opinion in a written report. We will send you a copy of the report either by mail, e-mail, or fax.

If, after receiving your mail review, you have questions about the recommendations, you should first discuss these with your personal physician. The opinion by mail does not include further opinions or additional involvement of our physicians in your care. If you would like to communicate with one of our physicians, please work with us to make an appointment in New York.
