Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center Commack: Services Offered

At Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center Commack, we offer a broad spectrum of services for adults with cancer.

Screening and Diagnostics

Cancer screening and early detection are top priorities at Memorial Sloan Kettering. We offer digital mammography and other advanced breast imaging technology to detect breast cancer. We also work with skin cancer experts at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hauppauge in the screening and prevention of skin cancers.

For any cancer type, getting a precise diagnosis is the critical first step toward getting the right treatment. Memorial Sloan Kettering Commack uses advanced imaging technologies — including ultrasound, MRI, CT, and PET-CT — to determine the extent of your cancer.

We also perform stereotactic, ultrasound-, and MRI-guided biopsies. All specimens from biopsies are sent to Memorial Sloan Kettering in Manhattan, where pathologists who specialize in specific types of cancer evaluate each slide.

Chemotherapy and Medical Oncology

Our Commack facility is home to medical oncologists who focus on particular types of cancer. We are experts in using clinical information to plan and manage treatment in ways that are tailored to your specific clinical condition. If you need chemotherapy, biologic therapies, or intravenous treatments, you can receive your infusions at Commack. Our focus is on making the experience as comfortable as possible. You are welcome to bring friends and loved ones to help pass the time during treatment. Snacks are available for patients receiving chemotherapy.

Radiation Oncology

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center is a leader in the use of safe, precise, advanced technologies for radiation therapy. At our Commack facility, we use three state-of-the-art linear accelerators, advanced imaging and CT simulation approaches, and high-speed computer-based systems to deliver radiation directly to the tumor with incredible precision. We are experts in intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) and image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT), and use on-board imaging (OBI) to monitor and account for changes in the location of the tumor immediately before and during each treatment.

Safety is a high priority at each step of your treatment. Medical physicists are involved in every radiation procedure to ensure that the correct dose of radiation is delivered precisely where it is needed.

Lymphedema Therapy

Videos

Jeannette Zucker, a physical therapist and lymphedema specialist at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, discusses how cancer treatment can lead to lymphedema and ways to reduce the risk and better manage lymphedema following cancer treatment.

Lymphedema is a swelling of the arm, leg, groin, or head and neck that can develop when surgery or radiation treatments affect the lymph nodes during treatment for breast cancer. An on-site physical therapist is available at Memorial Sloan Kettering Commack to assist in detecting lymphedema, provide treatment and education, and help you to manage the condition at home.
