Survivorship Center: Adult Survivorship Program

Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center offers disease-specific survivorship clinics for patients who have completed cancer treatment at Memorial Sloan-Kettering. In addition to monitoring for signs of cancer recurrence, adult survivor care focuses on the identification, prevention, and control of the side effects associated with cancer and its treatment. Follow-up care is provided by nurse practitioners who are specialists in the care of cancer survivors.

During a survivorship follow-up visit, the nurse practitioner will:

  • Perform a physical exam and review the patient's medical history
  • Evaluate and manage any long-term or late effects of cancer and its treatment (physical and psychosocial)
  • Discuss methods to prevent new health problems
  • Recommend appropriate cancer screening
  • Communicate directly with the patient's primary care doctor and/or other specialized provider(s) to share information about a survivorship care plan

Currently, there are clinics for survivors of bone marrow transplant, and breast, colorectal, esophageal, kidney, lung, and prostate cancers. The nurse practitioners in these clinics work with the original treatment team of doctors and nurses. The Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center Survivorship Program is in the process of establishing survivor care for other types of cancers.

Please speak to your Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center doctor or nurse for more information about these clinics.
