While several factors can influence a woman’s fertility – including age, obesity, and nicotine use – cancer treatment has the most significant impact on fertility, says Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center fertility specialist Joanne Frankel Kelvin. Some women may be able to conceive naturally after cancer treatment, but approaches such as surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy can impair a woman’s reproductive system and make conception more difficult or impossible.
