The Impact of Androgen Ablation Therapy on Cognitive Functioning and Functional Status in Men with Prostate Cancer Age 65 and Older

Androgen ablation therapy is a type of hormonal therapy used to treat men with advanced prostate cancer. In this study, researchers want to determine if the drugs Lupron, Casodex, and Zolodex cause changes in functions such as memory, learning, or concentration (“cognitive functions”). The results of this study will be used in the future to help other men with prostate cancer who may need hormonal treatment with these drugs.

The study will include two groups of men with prostate cancer who are age 65 and older: one group of men who are receiving or will receive hormonal therapy, and one group which will not receive hormonal therapy. Participants will be asked to complete several questionnaires that focus on thinking ability, depression, anxiety, fatigue, and pain. They will complete these surveys at the beginning of the study and then again one year later. Researchers will compare the findings between the two groups.
