Adolescent and Young Adult Cancer Survivors: Identity Development
Purpose
Recent improvements in the treatment of adolescents and young adults with cancer have resulted in a large number of long-term survivors. However, few studies have been conducted that exclusively involve survivors diagnosed during adolescence. The purpose of this study is to better understand how a cancer diagnosis during adolescence or young adulthood affects a person¿s identity development and his or her needs as a survivor.
The design of the study is twofold: first, subjects will participate in individual interviews or focus groups centered on issues of identity development, peer and family relationships, and psychosocial concerns. Second, findings from this qualitative assessment will be used to conduct telephone surveys about participants¿ health and quality of life.
Researchers hope that information about the unique needs and cancer experiences of the young adult population will help healthcare professionals provide better care to future adolescent and young adult cancer survivors.

Eligibility
To be eligible for this study, patients must meet several criteria, including but not limited to the following:
- Patients must be between the ages of 15 and 24 and must have been diagnosed between the ages of 14 and 20 (inclusive).
- At least 6 months must have passed since completion of treatment.
- Participants must be able to speak English.
