Men with prostate cancer, especially those with early-stage disease, have a variety of treatment options from which to choose. The purpose of this study is to improve our understanding of how men with prostate cancer make decisions regarding their treatment and to better understand the factors that affect quality of life after treatment.
Participants will be asked to complete seven questionnaires before, during, and up to two years after finishing treatment. The questionnaires will survey their beliefs, personal relationships, and medical history; treatment choices and experiences with their doctors; and quality of life after treatment is completed. Since prior studies have reported different experiences with the healthcare system between blacks and whites with prostate cancer, participants will also be asked about their experiences with discrimination.
Participants in this study will include men with prostate cancer that has not reached an advanced stage and has not yet been treated. Participants must be proficient in the English language so they can complete the questionnaires.
