Full Title
Mesothelioma From a Patient Perspective: A Survey of Psychosocial Needs and Exploration of Online Support for Patients
Purpose

The purpose of this study is to explore how pleural mesothelioma affects patients’ emotional and physical well-being. Researchers also want to learn more about patients’ needs and how they deal with the illness. The information gleaned from this study may help identify ways to lessen physical and emotional strains.

In part 1 of the study, patients will complete questionnaires either at the time of an appointment, over the phone, or at home. The questionnaires will ask about their backgrounds, medical history, coping with the illness, and physical and emotional well-being.

In part 2 of the study, patients will have an opportunity to participate in an online support group conducted once a week for six weeks.

Eligibility

This study will include patients being treated for pleural mesothelioma at Memorial Sloan-Kettering who are 18 or older and can communicate in English. Those who participate in the online support group must have Internet access, a computer, an e-mail account, and a telephone.
