Medical students become active members of the Orthopaedic Service treating benign and malignant musculoskeletal diseases. Pathophysiology, diagnostic techniques, and surgical principles will be emphasized in an orthopaedic environment. Students will be an integral part of the orthopaedic unit, participating in all inpatient, outpatient, and surgical activities, as well as six hours of conferences weekly. They are required to learn the elements of musculoskeletal examination, interpret imaging studies, and present their evaluations to supervisory team members. A short formal presentation is required.

Notes:

  1. For any holidays listed, students must consult with the Medical Student Coordinator to determine whether they are released from their responsibilities.
  2. In the Clinical Medicine and Oncology Sub-Internship, students will be expected to take "short call" once or twice during the week in addition to one Saturday and/or Sunday during the four-week elective. No overnight call is taken.
