Advances in Molecular Oncology Symposium

CME

Molecular oncology advances facilitate the development of personalized cancer therapies based on unique genomic characteristics of each patient’s tumor. This symposium will highlight the innovative work of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center scientists and clinicians, and describe new and exciting molecular approaches in the treatment of cancer. It will also feature accomplishments of Hartford HealthCare Cancer Institute research team, and describe how Hartford HealthCare Cancer Institute’s membership in the MSK Cancer Alliance will make accessible unique research studies and treatment algorithms to Connecticut’s cancer patients.

MSK is undertaking a unique and intensive endeavor to transform cancer care through genomic analysis of tumor specimens. At MSK’s new Center for Molecular Oncology, a team of laboratory and clinical researchers is working to translate new molecular insights into individualized therapies and diagnostic tools.

Memorial Sloan Kettering molecular oncology efforts bring together researchers with many different areas of expertise – including cancer biology, pathology, bioinformatics, and systems biology – to undertake a vast, translational research program. For every type of cancer, diagnostic biopsy tissues are comprehensively profiled using next-generation sequencing and other technologies. The molecular information of each tumor is then given to the physician and used to assist in the choice of therapy or enrollment in a clinical trial.

Dr. Mark G. Kris, from MSK’s Thoracic Oncology Service, will discuss how these new approaches may help to achieve cures in lung cancer. Dr. David Solit, Director of MSK’s Center for Molecular Oncology will discuss research on extraordinary survivors. Dr. Jedd Wolchok, Chief of MSK’s Melanoma and Immunotherapeutics Service, will discuss exciting advances in immunotherapy. Dr. Jonathan Earle, HHCCI’s molecular pathology lead, will discuss genomic and molecular research experience and capabilities.

Advances in Molecular Oncology will be an exciting symposium to commemorate the launch of Hartford Healthcare Cancer Institute’s membership in the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Alliance and is a must attend program for physicians and nurses and other providers interested in cancer innovation.
