A Decade of Leadership Harold Varmus became President and Chief Executive Officer of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center on January 1, 2000. He ended his decade-long tenure on July 1, 2010. And on July 12, 2010, Dr. Varmus took up a new role as Director of the National Cancer Institute.
