The Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center's Final Year Elective Program is available to students who will be in their final year of medical school at the time they are participating in the electives. Before submitting your application, you must read the FAQ section.
*NOTE: Due to high volume, incomplete applications will not be processed. Original documents only -- pdf, e-mailed, or faxed materials will not be accepted. Documents must be in English only or accompanied by a statement from a school official certifying contents.
Listed below are the items necessary to apply to the program:
- Letter from the dean of your medical school, in addition to a recommendation letter, stating that:
- you are a final year student;
- that you are in good standing;
- you are pursuing the elective for academic credit;
- if English is not your native language, that you have sufficient proficiency in English, including clinical terminology, to benefit from this program.
If you are not yet a student in your final year of medical school, but will be at the time of the requested elective, the letter must state that you will achieve final year status on a specific date. *Note: If your letter does not state this explicitly, your application materials will be considered incomplete and will be returned to you without review.
- Cover letter stating your elective(s), the educational goals you wish to acheive, and the dates of availability. According to New York State Law, international students can study for a total of 12 weeks.
- Curriculum vitae with the following information:
- Education: Medical School (expected date of degree), Graduate and Undergraduate school (degrees conferred)
- Clinical Education: (i.e., clerkships, clinical experiences, etc.) In a paragraph format, include specific responsibilities, skills learned, etc.
- Employment: As it relates to your career path
- Research Experience: (if any)
- Publications: (if any)
- Honors and Awards: (if any)
- Language Skills: English proficiency is required
- Recommendation letter. (This letter is in addition to Dean's letter described in number 1.)
- Most recent academic transcript listing the school grades of all classes taken during medical school. If your school does not issue such a transcript, a separate dean's letter must confirm this.
- Proof of malpractice insurance for the period of the elective.
- Proof of healthcare coverage for the period of the elective.
- Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center Health Statement.
- Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center Application.
