Program Description
The Pelvic Reconstructive Clinical Research fellowship is a one year position that exposes research fellows to the latest reconstructive techniques used following pelvic exonerative surgery. The fellowship is designed to include exposure to urologic and colorectal reconstruction, pelvic wall/floor reconstruction, and sexual function preservation techniques. Members of the pelvic reconstruction team include attendings within the divisions of colorectal, urologic, gynecologic, plastic, and orthopedic surgery, in addition to radiation oncology, medical oncology, radiology, medical informatics/outcomes research, psychology, and nursing/ostomy. The fellowship provides an opportunity to actively participate in the design, implementation, and publication of the various clinical research efforts of the Pelvic Reconstruction/Surgery Group. The overall focus of the group is to enhance the quality of life for patients with pelvic tumors by providing the most advanced surgical techniques in pelvic reconstruction. The fellowship provides strong exposure to clinical research involving studies designed to improve the ability to identify appropriate candidates for the various reconstructive procedures that the group provides. The group's overall research/clinical activities focus on the advancement of the field and the establishment of standards for patient care.
Although the majority of the duties of the clinical research fellow are focused on clinical research activities, ample opportunity to participate in radical pelvic procedures performed by the pelvic reconstruction team is provided.
- Eligibility
Applicants must have completed residency training in one of these fields: obstetrics and gynecology, urology, or general surgery. Having trained at a board-approved program is an asset but not a requirement. Foreign medical graduates with equivalent qualifications are also eligible to apply provided they have completed all three of the USMLE examinations.
