Flexible Medical Benefits

Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center's flexible benefits program recognizes that as your life changes, so may the benefits you need. The flexible benefits program assigns you flex dollars to spend on MSKCC benefits. If you choose plans that cost less than your assigned flex dollars, you may apply the extra dollars toward the cost of other benefits, or you may have your unused flex dollars added to your pay and taxed as regular income.

If you choose extra benefits and your flex dollars do not cover the cost, the additional cost in before tax dollars is deducted from your salary each pay period.

You can use your flex dollars to buy the following benefits:

  • Medical coverage
  • Dental coverage
  • Long term disability coverage
  • Healthcare spending account
  • Prescription card
  • Dependent care spending account
  • Life insurance
  • Accidental death and dismemberment coverage

Each year you will have the opportunity to change your flexible benefits.

Housing

Life in New York City
Life in New York City
There is no more enriching place in which to live, work, and study

MSKCC requires clinical and research trainees to reside in Center owned housing in order to staff around the clock programs in patient care and research, and to provide a realistic and practical training experience. In the event the Center does not have sufficient vacant housing stock to accommodate all clinical and research trainees, the executive vice president or his designee may grant individual waivers of the housing requirement. Subsidized housing in an apartment building adjacent to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center is available for fellows and their families -- apartment size is determined by family size. Apartment rents are very affordable and rent is taken directly from each fellow's paycheck before taxes.

Salary

Yearly stipends begin at approximately $60,000 and are determined by the number of years of training the fellow has had after graduating medical school.

NIH Clinical Research Loan Repayment Program

There is an Extramural Loan Repayment Program for Clinical Researchers (LRP-CR) from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The LRP-CR provides for the repayment of educational loans of qualified health professionals who agree to conduct clinical research for two years. This program provides for the repayment of up to $35,000 of the principal and interest of educational loans. The program covers federal taxes on the loan repayments, which is considered taxable income being paid to program participants.
