NBTY, Inc., distributors of Royal Tongan Limu, have voluntarily destroyed $2.7 million worth of their product after an investigation by the US Food and Drug Administration found that the product was marketed using unapproved drug claims. The supplement, which was sold over the internet, was touted as an effective treatment against a variety of diseases including cancer. The FDA found that these unsubstantiated claims were in violation of the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act. Dynamic Essentials, the subsidiary of NBTY that distributed Royal Tongan Limu has ceased operation and no longer promotes or sells the product on its website.
