BRCA1 Haploinsufficiency and Gene Expression

[Protocol 04-045]

Full Title :
BRCA1 HAPLOINSUFFICIENCY AND GENE EXPRESSION
Purpose :

The purpose of this research study is to collect and analyze blood samples from people who are known to have a genetic predisposition to breast or ovarian cancer, or who tested negative for mutations in the genes causing such a predisposition (BRCA) but are the same age as women with a predisposition.

These blood samples will be used by researchers at Memorial Sloan-Kettering who study the causes of breast and ovarian cancer. They are seeking more effective ways to understand how these cancers develop. They are trying to discover differences in the ways cells work in women with or without a predisposition. Preliminary data suggest that some genes may be regulated in different ways based upon whether or not a woman has this genetic predisposition.

Blood specimens and all related information will be stored and used under strict confidentiality guidelines designed to protect participants' privacy.

Eligibility :

To be eligible for this study, patients must meet several criteria, including but not limited to the following:

  • Participants must have been tested for BRCA mutations and must not have any history of cancer.

For more information and to see if you are eligible for this study, please contact Dr. Tari A King at 646-888-5432.
