A Phase II Trial of Liposomal Doxorubicin (Doxil®) Followed by Bexarotene (Targretin®) in Advanced Cutaneous T-Cell Lymphoma
[Protocol 05-098]
- Full Title :
- PHASE II TRIAL OF DOXORUBICIN HC1 LIPOSOME INJECTION (DOXIL) IN ADVANCED STAGE CUTANEOUS T-CELL LYMPHOMA FOLLOWED BY BEXAROTENE (TARGRETIN)
- Purpose :
Doxorubicin is a drug commonly used to treat cancer. Liposomal doxorubicin (Doxil) is a form of the drug in which the doxorubicin is enclosed in a fat capsule. This helps the drug remain in the bloodstream longer and possibly concentrate in the skin better than it does in its standard form, and also decreases some of the risk of damage to the heart muscle that can occur with standard doxorubicin.
In this study, researchers want to evaluate the effectiveness of giving liposomal doxorubicin to patients with advanced cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (a cancer of the lymphatic tissue in the skin), followed by bexarotene (Targretin). They will also observe the side effects associated with treatment.
Bexarotene is a retinoid, a drug related to vitamin A. It is approved for treating cutaneous T-cell lymphoma. The use of doxorubicin for this cancer is considered investigational.
- Eligibility :
To be eligible for this study, patients must meet several criteria, including but not limited to the following:
- Patients must have a confirmed diagnosis of cutaneous T-cell lymphoma.
- Patients must be age 18 or older.
For more information and to see if you are eligible for this study, please contact Dr. David J. Straus at 212-639-8365.
