Screening for Depression in Lung Cancer Patients

[Protocol 06-038]

Full Title :
MAXIMIZING UTILIZATION OF DEPRESSION SCREENING IN LUNG CANCER PATIENTS
Purpose :

Since depression is common in patients with cancer, it is important to recognize and treat depression and related symptoms. Untreated depression can adversely affect patients and their caregivers.

The purpose of this study is to see if a screening tool can be used to help increase the identification of depression in patients with lung cancer. The results of this study may also help determine how best to use the information obtained from such screening tools.

Participants will be asked to complete two sets of questionnaires during a single clinic visit. They will include questions about the patient's mood and experience with lung cancer. The questionnaires should take a total of 35-55 minutes to complete.

Eligibility :

This study will include patients with lung cancer being treated at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.

For more information about this study, please contact Dr. Steven Passik at 646-888-0100.
