A Phase II Trial of Sunitinib (Sutent®) in Patients with Recurrent or Inoperable Meningioma
[Protocol 07-135]
- Full Title :
- PHASE II TRIAL OF SUNITINIB (SU011248) IN PATIENTS WITH RECURRENT OR INOPERABLE MENINGIOMA
- Purpose :
At this time no drugs are routinely used to treat meningioma, hemangioblastoma, or hemangiopericytoma (types of brain tumors). Only surgery and radiation therapy are known to be useful.
Sunitinib is a drug approved for treating advanced kidney cancer. Sunitinib is also being studied for the treatment of other tumors. It may be useful in the treatment of brain tumors because it can prevent the formation of new blood vessels that allow tumor cells to survive and grow.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of sunitinib in patients with meningioma, hemangioblastoma, or hemangiopericytoma that has returned or persisted despite surgery, radiation therapy, or chemotherapy.
- Eligibility :
To be eligible for this study, patients must meet several criteria, including but not limited to the following:
- Patients must have a confirmed diagnosis of meningioma, hemangioblastoma, or hemangiopericytoma that has returned or persisted despite surgery, radiation therapy, or chemotherapy.
- At least 4 weeks must have passed since completion of prior therapies and entry into the study.
- Patients must be age 18 or older.
