A Pilot Study of Docetaxel plus Vinorelbine as Adjuvant Chemotherapy for Patients with Resected Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer

[Protocol 07-178]

Full Title :
A PILOT STUDY OF DOCETAXEL (TAXOTERE) PLUS VINORELBINE AS ADJUVANT CHEMOTHERAPY FOR PATIENTS WITH RESECTED STAGE I-III NON-SMALL CELL LUNG CANCER
Purpose :

Standard adjuvant chemotherapy for patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) that has been surgically removed includes the drug cisplatin given in combination with another chemotherapy drug, such as docetaxel or vinorelbine.

Some patients cannot receive cisplatin, however, either due to specific health reasons or characteristics of the lung tumor. The purpose of this study is to see if a combination of docetaxel and vinorelbine is associated with fewer side effects than cisplatin-based chemotherapy for treating NSCLC that has been surgically removed.

Eligibility :

To be eligible for this study, patients must meet several criteria, including but not limited to the following:

  • Patients must have a confirmed diagnosis of stage IA-IIIB NSCLC that was surgically removed 4 to 16 weeks prior to entering the study.
  • Patients must not be candidates for adjuvant therapy with cisplatin.
  • Patients may not have received adjuvant chemotherapy or postoperative radiation therapy.
  • Patients must be age 18 or older.

For more information and to inquire about eligibility for this study, please contact Dr. Christopher Azzoli at 212-639-2131.
