Physical Activity Intervention for Lung Cancer Survivors

[Protocol 08-067]

Full Title :
PHYSICAL ACTIVITY INTERVENTION FOR LUNG CANCER SURVIVORS
Purpose :

This study is being conducted to see if relatively inactive lung cancer survivors will take part in a physical activity program and if the exercise program will benefit them. The results of the study will help researchers learn how to plan services for lung cancer survivors.

Participants will first be interviewed about how active they are, how their health affects their quality of life, and if there are reasons they cannot be more physically active. Their physical function will also be assessed.

Participants will then be randomly assigned to a group that begins a 12-week exercise program or a "wait-listed" group which does not begin the exercise right away. The physical activity program involves meeting face to face with physical activity staff to develop a personally tailored physical activity plan for home use. Both groups will have their physical function, activity levels, and quality of life compared at the 12-week point.

Eligibility :

Participants in this study will include certain patients who were successfully treated for non-small cell lung cancer one to five years before at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.
