Phase II Study of CBP501, Pemetrexed, and Cisplatin in Chemotherapy-Naïve Patients with Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma

[Protocol 08-082]

Full Title :
PHASE I/II STUDY OF A TRIPLET COMBINATION OF CBP501, PEMETREXED AND CISPLATIN IN PATIENTS WITH ADVANCED SOLID TUMORS AND IN CHEMOTHERAPY-NAIVE PATIENTS WITH MALIGNANT PLEURAL MESOTHELIOMA
Purpose :

Pemetrexed and cisplatin are standard chemotherapy medicines used to treat various types of cancer, such as non-small cell lung cancer and mesothelioma. Pemetrexed kills cancer cells by inhibiting their ability to metabolize certain vitamins. Cisplatin kills cancer cells by damaging their DNA.

CBP501 is an investigational drug that inhibits a number of enzymes important for cancer cell division. In this study, researchers will be evaluating the safety and effectiveness of pemetrexed, cisplatin, and CBP501 in patients with previously untreated pleural mesothelioma (cancer of the lung lining). Patients will be randomly assigned to receive all three drugs or just pemetrexed and cisplatin, and researchers will compare the two groups.

Eligibility :

To be eligible for this study, patients must meet several criteria, including but not limited to the following:

  • Patients must have pleural mesothelioma that is not removable by surgery and has not been previously treated with chemotherapy.
  • Patients must not be confined to a bed or chair for more than half of their normal waking hours.
  • Patients must be age 18 or older.

For more information and to inquire about eligibility for this study, please contact Dr. Lee M. Krug at 212-639-8420.
